Stylish mews house in Kensington, London

This repeat property developer client asked us to assist him with his own mews house in central London.

Almost every team at Origins Design assisted on this project, which included interior design, furniture design and manufacture through to installation. Many pieces required a lot of technical design work.

The interior design and flow of this Kensington mews house needed careful planning in order to make the most of the small living spaces. The client had a strong personal style with interesting art and sculpture and we worked closely with him to complement his collections and get his personal style across in his interiors. We gave a lot of the pieces in this home a dual function to maximise space, and chose a stylish modern masculine design scheme throughout.

In the entrance hall, the coat and shoe cupboard was designed to act as a room divider between the hall and the living / dining space.

The main living space of this London mews home required careful planning and design, as it doubled up as the dining space and would receive the highest traffic.

We designed the oval marble dining table to have wheels so it could be rolled aside to allow the space to flow from dining room to living space as guests came and went.

The banquette sofa was designed to have a slighter higher seat height and we made additional seat pads to go on the sofa to allow it to be used for dining. The bespoke scatter cushions act as backrest cushions when the banquette is used for dining.

An upholstered ottoman doubled up as a coffee table through the use of two dark stained oak sliding tables along its surface. We built-in a multi-function media unit on one wall with a recessed TV, high gloss oak book shelves, wallpapered surface and a marble fire surround.

A home bar with wine racks, glass shelving and in-built wine cooler was tucked into one corner of the dining and kitchen space. Stained oak was used for the shelving with integrated lighting and glass doors.

The Origins Design upholstery team made a velvet sofa with contrast piping for the sitting area in the exact dimensions of a single bed to provide an extra bed for any guests.

A marble coffee table with a stained dark oak base sits centrally and a desk is tucked under the eaves to save space. Cleverly, the Origins Design team managed to conceal the air conditioning unit in the desk joinery to save space.

Inspiration was taken from luxury hotels for the full-height upholstered headboard.

A stained oak frame surrounded the headboard, with inset mirrors and integrated power points and reading lights on both sides.  Bedside tables with leather inlay are tucked in on each side of the bed.
