Interior designer Elie Jones asked us to create bespoke furniture, joinery and upholstery for her clients’ stylish 1930s five bedroom family home in Esher, Surrey.
After several previous successful projects together, Elie Jones had her clients’ complete trust when it came to the redesign of their TV room, master bedroom, entrance hallway and landing. We worked with Elie’s sketches and designs to create bespoke furniture and joinery that would improve each room whilst adding valuable storage wherever possible – a must for a busy family of five.

As the client had given her free-rein, Elie set about devising ideas to resolve several challenging layouts and spaces within the property. She came to us with her concept sketches and the requirements for each space, starting with the Media / TV room. The space was a small internal room with very little natural light. Elie’s vision was to embrace the darkness and enrich it with sumptuous upholstery, and maximise the space with bespoke fitted furniture.
Elie’s client needed a solution for the entrance hallway which was slightly disjointed with a foyer, archway and a second squarer space with a small coat cupboard which was insufficient for the family. She had the arch removed and took one of the walls back a few inches to create space, and introduced a pale but warm colour palette. The colour scheme continues up to the landing to help brighten what was previously a dark corridor.
For the Master bedroom, the client wanted a more sumptuous and luxurious feel and had a slipper bath that she wanted adding to the dressing area as their en suite bathroom was not big enough. Elie redesigned the main bedroom area keeping only an old linen cupboard that the client wanted to retain, and worked with us to increase the luxurious feel of the dressing room.
For the Media / TV Room, we crafted a luxurious bespoke deep-seated sofa with two matching ottomans that were designed exactly to Elie’s concept sketches. When the client is not watching the screen, they can rotate the ottomans and use them as chairs opposite the sofa for a more sociable layout.
Elie also provided a design for the bar area but she wanted to include some stand out surfaces so we sourced and added a beautiful piece of marble and antiqued bronze mirror. All the technical drawings ensured that we could provide her client with the best possible use of space incorporating extra seating and storage. Our choice of wood stains also enabled Elie to ensure that the joinery in both the Media / TV Room and Hallway worked well together.

In the newly widened entrance room, we created cupboards with as much storage space as possible to house all the coats, shoes, boots and sports items such as tennis rackets etc. Elie also wanted a small seating area by the front door where the family could sit and take shoes on and off. Our cabinetry and upholstery teams collaborated on a comfortable upholstered seat with a clever shoe cupboard below that was fitted into a neat recess. We also made the bespoke mirror to fit perfectly in the space above the seat and incorporated simple switching for mood lighting within the seating area and a fitted display unit made and fitted by our cabinet makers.
To add extra light to the upstairs landing, we designed and made another display unit with additional LED lighting hidden in discreet channels around every recess.
When it came to Elie’s complete redesign of the Master Bedroom, we brought the existing fitted wardrobe into the new luxury boutique look by adding open hanging, a bespoke jewellery drawer tailored to the client’s needs, and crafting and fitting sleek new doors. The client added a modern slipper bath in the newly opened space and the result is a luxurious bedroom suite with a natural flow.
We created a bespoke bedroom armchair in a purple velvet and a complimentary bespoke headboard in a practical yet luxurious slub velvet with stained oak trim to tie in with the bedside tables. The headboard has integrated reading lights to provide personal lighting that won’t disturb a sleeping partner.
As our installation team had visited the property at the start to measure the access routes, widths of all the entryways, ceiling heights and stairways, the installation went without a hitch.
“The TV Room is a triumph!! It is such a huge transformation, this room has a real feeling of luxury and glamour and using Origins to build the bespoke furniture and adding reflective and unique surfaces has really elevated the space to a feeling of complete relaxation. It is a room that seats all of the family comfortably, a luxurious space that encourages my clients family to come and be together.”
