Contemporary bespoke furniture

Exceptionally high quality private development

For this contemporary new-build residential apartment scheme in Kensington, interior designers Matthews Rea asked us to craft bespoke furniture that fitted their design schemes seamlessly.

Located in a quiet cul-de-sac lined with Arts & Crafts houses, the architecture and interior design of the five apartments within this development takes cues from the heritage of the neighbouring houses. Every piece of furniture we crafted had to match the exceptional quality of style and finish of the property.

CONTEMPORARY LIVING

Architects Rodić Davidson designed this Kensington development around light-filled courtyards and atriums due to the site being surrounded on three sides. Each apartment is family-sized with multiple bedrooms and large open plan living spaces, however access for larger pieces of furniture was limited. We built bespoke modular corner and angled sofas for the apartments and upholstered them in fabrics chosen by Matthews Rea.

Each sofa was designed for our installation team to take up the angled staircases within the duplex apartments and in the lift to the two penthouses. Once in their final spaces, they were carefully unwrapped and assembled. The sections are joined together with hidden fixings to ensure the sections will not move apart.

Two contemporary three-legged armchairs to Matthews Rea’s own design, were upholstered in rich velvet to sit by the fireplaces.

BESPOKE JOINERY

The open plan living space of one of the Kensington penthouses required a bespoke console table to sit behind the large corner sofa (seen at the top of the page).

Matthews Rea had selected a neutral colour palette with warm earthy tones for the interior design and directed us to use a complementary stained oak for the table. Within the structure of the console, our joiners created a geometric recess in a beige lacquer following the direction of the Matthews Rea design team, repeating the colourway of the neutral plasterwork and pale timber around the fireplace.

Family-sized apartments require ample storage. Our joiners crafted useful bespoke shelving and base cupboards in natural oak to Matthews Rea’s design to fit into recesses within the dining space and home office of one of the apartments in the development.

TAILORED

Sets of bedside tables in neutral colours with subtle details are used throughout the apartments adding gentle points of interest to each bedroom.

We combined dark stained oak with beige gloss lacquer for a pair of handless bedside tables with soft touch drawer closing mechanisms and crafted other sets of bedside tables using lacquer finishes, metal trims and leather inlays.

We worked closely with our client, Matthews Rea, with frequent checks on design, shape, materials and function of each bespoke piece of furniture we made for the apartments in Kensington. The end result is a comfortable and stylish interior where all the pieces fit seamlessly into the scheme and the wider architectural setting.
